The villages of Lanzarote are characterised by the brightness of their architecture. White houses standing in stark contrast to black lava, windmills and Arabic chimneys, castles and fortresses all come together to offer a very unique and characteristic landscape.

Traditional Customs and annual festivities remain strong throughout the Canary Islands. Each village retains and holds onto its connection with the past. Customs passed from generation to generation are celebrated in all the religious and folklore celebrations.

The most important festivals are: La Candelaria, which is celebrated on 2nd February, and La Fiesta del Carmen, which takes place on the first Sunday in August.

La Fiesta del Carmen is a typical marine festival in which the Virgen del Carmen, patron of sailors, is brought out in boat.

The fiesta finishes with a flotilla of specially decorated fishing boats setting out to sea to pray for a good catch in the year to come.

Puerto del Carmen is proud of its variety and quality of night-time activities. Bars and clubs offer a wide selection of both live and recorded music. These range from the traditional Canarian folk music, the rhythms of flamenco and Salsa, right through to jazz, dance and rock & roll.

A more restful evening can be spent in one of the many restaurants or pleasant hotel lounges and cocktail bars.

Alternatively, soak in the calm tranquility and serenity of the warm nights of Puerto Del Carmen by talking a leisurely stroll along the beach promenade.
